Choosing the Right Business
One of the first objectives when deciding to become an entrepreneur is deciding what type of business to start. Careful contemplation will improve the chances of happiness and overall success. There are a multitude of options, businesses for just about everything one can think of and then some.

An exercise of self-evaluation is a good place to start. Ask yourself a serious of questions. Put the questions on paper, along with all possible responses. Answers will begin to give you direction as to what type of business is best suited for you. See below for a list of subjects to ponder:
  • Take into consideration your education, skills, gifts, and experience.
  • What do you do well?
  • What do you enjoy doing? There may be various tasks you perform well, but don't necessarily enjoy. So already you can start to narrow your options. People are usually most successful when going something they take pleasure in.
  • Don’t be afraid to branch into new territory. It’s not necessary to continue a profession you know. Actually, it’s ill advised to go into business doing something just because it’s what you know.
  • What are you passionate about? People are usually most successful doing something they enjoy. If you love dogs, maybe you should consider a business that involves them. If you’re great at organization, think about how you can use those skills. Perhaps you’re a social butterfly. Think about how you can use your natural people skills to be successful.
  • Think about your life style. For example, if you have little ones, it probably wouldn’t be a good idea to start a business that keeps you occupied and away every weekend. Instead you may want to mull over the possibility of creating a business where functions can be performed from home or during school hours. After all, flexibility is one of the benefits of being self-employed.
